Welcome to My Learning Portfolio!
My name is Allison Keeton. I was born and raised on the west side of Cincinnati, Ohio. I have an older sister and a younger brother. My siblings and I are very close and I love spending time with my family. In my free time, I enjoy reading, scrapbooking, and doing crossword puzzles. I love watching chick flick movies and Netflix shows.
I am currently a fifth-year student studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. I chose to study Mechanical Engineering because I have always enjoyed and excelled in math and science classes. I am also intrigued by the problem-solving nature of engineering disciplines. I want to acquire the skills necessary to innovate, think critically, and solve real-life problems. I chose to attend the University of Cincinnati because the College of Engineering and Applied Science has an amazing reputation. I was also very impressed with UC’s co-op program.
I have completed four co-op rotations at Marathon Petroleum Company and am currently completing my fifth co-op term. During my first rotation, I worked at Marathon's corporate office in Findlay, OH in the Terminal Engineering group. This was primarily a project management role. My favorite part of this co-op rotation was spending time onsite talking to contractors/operators and leading pre-job safety meetings. During my second rotation, I worked at MPC's recently-acquired biodiesel refinery in Cincinnati, OH in the Engineering Department. I assisted on various pipe and tank upgrade projects. I really enjoyed learning about biodiesel and the processes and technology used to refine it. During my third co-op rotation, I worked in the Pipeline Engineering group in Findlay. I assisted on various projects and was in charge of a small fencing project in St. James, LA. My main focus during the semester was developing cost estimates and associated documents for my group's 2016 projects. Because I had never worked on something like that before, it was a great learning experience for me. For my fourth co-op rotation, I worked at Marathon's refinery in Catlettsburg, KY. For two months during the semester, the refinery was undergoing a major turnaround, which is a maintenance shutdown. I worked turnaround and assisted a field coordinator in one of the process areas. This was a unique and exciting work opportunity. Right now, I am working in the Major Projects group at the corporate office in Findlay, OH. My project team is leading the construction of a 50-mile pipeline in northeast Ohio and we are based in Dover, OH.
